Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Butterfly AI LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles information when you use the FloatAI Android app (the “App”). FloatAI shows a floating microphone over other apps. You tap it, speak, and the transcript is typed at your cursor, or shown with a Copy button.
Basic mode transcribes on your phone. Speed and Accurate modes send the recording to our servers so we can return the text. The accessibility service is used only to insert that text into the focused field.
How you may use the App is in our Terms of Use.
Information we process
Voice recordings
If you allow the microphone, FloatAI records audio while the floating mic is listening. What happens to that audio depends on the transcription mode:
- Basic: audio is transcribed on your device with a speech model you download. The recording is not uploaded for that transcription.
- Speed and Accurate: the recording is uploaded to our servers, transcribed, and the text is returned to the App. On some phones with limited memory, transcription always uses the server.
Recordings sent for transcription are used to produce the text you asked for. We do not sell them.
Text you dictate and notes
Transcripts, the transcription history, and notes you save are stored in the App on your device so you can review or copy them. Uninstalling FloatAI removes that local data.
Account
You can use parts of FloatAI without an account. If you sign in with Google or email, we receive the details needed to create or restore your account, which may include your name, email address, Google account identifier, and profile photo URL. Sign-in is processed by Google Firebase Authentication. We store the account record on our servers so the same account can be recognized later.
Accessibility and the floating mic
Inserting text into other apps is optional. If you turn it on, Android’s Accessibility API lets FloatAI find the focused text field and place the transcript at the cursor. When a transcript is ready, the service looks at that focused field only. It does not read, store, or share the rest of your screen, and screen contents are not sent to our servers for this feature.
Display over other apps is used only to show the microphone bubble. Notifications are used so the microphone can keep running while you dictate. You can turn these off in Android settings. Dictation into other apps will stop working if the permissions it needs are off.
Subscriptions
Paid plans are sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment. We receive purchase status from Google Play Billing so the App can unlock the plan you bought. We do not receive your full card number.
Ads and analytics
The App uses:
- Google AdMob to show ads. Google may use the advertising ID and similar device signals under Google’s policies.
- Firebase Analytics and Firebase Cloud Messaging for usage statistics, crash-related diagnostics, and optional notifications.
- Our own usage events, such as onboarding steps, mic taps, and whether overlay or text insertion was allowed. These are sent to our servers with an app user id, app version, and basic device details such as memory.
Support messages
If you send an issue report from the App, we receive the message and the account or device details included in that report so we can respond.
Technical data
Requests to our servers include ordinary connection data such as IP address, app version, and the time of the request. Downloading the on-device speech model creates the same kind of download log.
How we use information
- Transcribe what you say and put the text where you asked
- Keep notes, history, and settings on your device
- Create and restore your account
- Provide subscriptions you purchase on Google Play
- Show ads and understand which parts of the App are used
- Fix errors and answer support requests
- Meet legal duties
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
- With service providers that run the App for us, including Google (Firebase, AdMob, and Play Billing) and our hosting at sopay.us
- If you ask us to, for example when you sign in with Google
- If the law requires it, or to protect our rights, users, or the public
- As part of a merger, sale, or similar business transfer, with the same protections described here
Retention
Audio uploaded for Speed or Accurate transcription is kept only as long as needed to return the text and operate the service. Account records are kept while your account is active. Local notes and history stay on the device until you delete them or uninstall the App. Server logs are kept for security and troubleshooting for a limited time.
Your choices
- Use Basic mode so transcription stays on the device.
- Turn off the microphone, the floating bubble, notifications, or text insertion in Android settings.
- Skip sign-in. If you have an account, use the delete account page to ask us to delete it.
- Limit ad personalization in your Google settings.
- Manage or cancel a subscription in Google Play.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, delete, or export personal information we hold, or to object to certain uses. Contact us and we will respond as required by law.
Children
FloatAI is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
We are based in the United States. If you use FloatAI from another country, your information may be processed in the United States or in other countries where our service providers operate.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information we store. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
